What Goes On is an original series created by Noggin, originally planned to air during its nighttime programming block for teens, The N. The show is a coming-of-age drama that stars an ensemble cast of five high schoolers.
Noggin LLC produced 10 episodes of the show, which were scheduled to premiere in late 2007. However, the show was pulled from the schedule before a single episode aired, and it never made its TV debut. All of the episodes were eventually leaked online in mid-2008.
History
The show was cast in November 2005, and filming took place in Philadelphia in April 2006. (source)
Summary
The show is an ensemble drama that explores the lives of five teenagers growing up in a typical suburban neighborhood, called "the Block." According to the show's original press release, it "takes an honest look at the journey of adolescence — figuring out who you are in the context of who you were and who you want to be."
Cast and characters
- Brady Carter - A 16-year-old rowing champion, played by Ian Nelson. Charming and outgoing, Brady is the guy that all the girls want and all the guys want to be. Underneath his charisma lies the true struggle that all boys face: figuring out how to be a man. He and his older brother, Noah, are deeply affected by the loss of their brother Justin.
- Dia Keating - A mixed-race Indian-American girl, played by Shaila Vaidya. She was Brady's longtime girlfriend. On the outside, everyone thinks they know who Dia is: the "smart girl," but on the inside, Dia knows that's all a sham. Her journey is to reconcile others' expectations of her with who she is in reality. She has poor eyesight but is afraid that glasses will make her look nerdy.
- Ethan - Brady's gay next door neighbor and good friend, played by Zachary Booth. Ethan is out with his sexuality and proud. He thinks coming out is "so 1999," so his orientation is not an issue, but actually having a relationship with another guy is a totally different story. He is sometimes emotionally vulnerable.
- Meghan - The moral compass of the Block, played by Laura Bottrell. She is the coxswain of the rowing team, and she is good friends with Dia and Ethan. She is the first to help the others with advice when they need it, but she is insecure about herself, especially about being overlooked by guys.
- Coral - Meghan's stepsister, a troubled and emotionally distant girl who is new to the Block. As Coral connects with Brady and his brother Noah, she must learn how to live life: how to move beyond the pill-popping cliche and let happiness in.
