Kai-Lan (Chinese: 凱蘭 Kǎi lán/Kelland) is the main title character of Ni Hao, Kai-Lan. She is voiced by Chinese-American actress Jade Lianna-Peters. During the show, she and her friends have to solve problems that come up during their daily life.
Basic Information
Kai-Lan is a 6-year-old Chinese-American girl and is the granddaughter of Ye-Ye. Her best friends are Tolee, Hoho, Lulu and Rintoo. She is affectionate, friendly, playful, adventurous, bright, very intelligent and has a big heart. And seems to be rather mature for her age. She speaks both English and Chinese, and she is eager to share her language, her culture, and her playtime with her animal friends and members of the audience at home.
Appearance
Kai-Lan has light skin, brown eyes and has black hair in odango buns. She normally wears a sleeveless blue shirt with two hearts, a jade necklace, orange shorts with darker orange stripes and red trainers with white soles, Her head is big, just like the other characters. She also has two red flowers on her hair. In her original design, she wears a long-sleeved yellow shirt and shorts. As a princess, Kai-Lan is letting her hair down and wearing a golden headpiece and a violet hanfu. When she goes to bed, she wears blue footie pajamas with a reddish-orange dinosaur on them.
Throughout the show, Kai-Lan wears many various outfits.

Trivia
- While her surname Chow wasn't revealed in the show, it was actually revealed on the official Nickelodeon website and likely on a 2006 trademark called "Grampa Chow".
- She and Lulu are the only characters to not get mad in the series (Aside from songs about feeling mad.)
- Over the course of the series, her parents have never been seen or mentioned.
- Kai-Lan was the name that the creator, Karen Chau, was given at birth, before being anglicized to Karen.
